We Believe You Cards

The We Believe You card was created to help people respond compassionately when someone discloses sexual assault, sexual violence, or abuse. In moments when words may feel difficult or inadequate, this card provides a simple but powerful message every survivor deserves to hear:

We believe you. You are not alone.

Created by the Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Center (SAVAC), these cards offer reassurance while connecting survivors to free, confidential local support services and advocacy resources.

The goal of the We Believe You card is to equip friends, coworkers, volunteers, educators, and community members with a supportive, trauma-informed response tool. You do not need to have all the “right” words to show compassion and help someone take the next step toward support and healing.

What Is the We Believe You Card?

The We Believe You card is a resource designed to support survivors of sexual violence in real-life, everyday situations. Each card provides:

  • A compassionate, validating message for survivors

  • Contact information for confidential sexual assault support services

  • Immediate access to local advocacy resources through SAVAC

  • A simple way for community members to respond supportively

These cards help remove uncertainty during difficult conversations and encourage survivor-centered support.

When Can the We Believe You Card Be Used?

Peer Support in Everyday Conversations

If a friend, classmate, or loved one shares their experience during a private conversation, over lunch, or while spending time together, the card offers a thoughtful and supportive way to respond when you may not know what to say.

Workplace Support

In professional settings, coworkers or supervisors may unexpectedly receive a disclosure of sexual harassment, assault, or abuse. The We Believe You card provides a discreet, respectful way to offer validation and connect someone with confidential resources without drawing unwanted attention.

Community Outreach & Volunteer Support

Volunteers, advocates, faith leaders, educators, healthcare workers, and community members can carry these cards to be prepared for unexpected moments when someone may disclose trauma or ask for help.

Immediate Access to Sexual Assault Resources

Each card includes SAVAC’s contact information so survivors can access free and confidential advocacy services whenever they feel ready. Support is available without pressure or judgment.

Why These Cards Matter

Survivors of sexual violence often remember how others responded when they first disclosed their experience. A compassionate response can help reduce feelings of isolation, fear, and shame.

By placing We Believe You cards throughout the community, SAVAC helps make support more accessible, immediate, and human. These cards empower everyday people to respond with empathy while helping survivors connect to trusted local sexual assault advocacy resources.
